The Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Office formally combined as one single organization in 2000 (MT News article), but the history of the programs and services provided long preceded the formation of the organization. In the late 1940s, each office was formed not only to support regulatory needs to ensure the Institute was in compliance but also to ensure faculty, researchers, staff and students worked safely. As an organization, we oversee the EHS management system, provide services that demonstrate MIT’s commitment to EHS stewardship and support MIT’s commitment to EHS performance beyond compliance.
